Jewish Arts 2013 is thrilled to welcome Eleanor Wachtel for the pentultimate event of its year-long festival honouring Congregation Emanu-El’s 150th anniversary.
Known for her insightful reading and appreciation of what it takes to create great works of literature, Eleanor Wachtel is considered one of the best literary interviewers on the planet. For over 20 years on CBC Radio’s Writers & Company, the show that she imagined and created, Eleanor sets her guests at ease as she sits down for intimate conversations, while we, the public, are invited to listen. Writers & Company has gathered fans from around the globe, and in 2011, it won the New York Festivals Prize for the World’s Best Radio Program. Judges for CBC’s Award for Programming Excellence noted that if they had to choose one hour of radio to take to a desert island, it would be Writers & Company. Eleanor’s enormous talent has been recognized by the academic world as well, where she’s been awarded eight honorary doctorates. She was named to the Order of Canada in 2005.
An Evening with Eleanor Wachtel will be an opportunity to hear her speak about her interviews with contemporary writers who shape our literary consciousness, and enrich our lives. There are only 275 seats in the synagogue’s heritage sanctuary, so we encourage you to buy tickets early.
Tickets can be purchased at: Long and McQuade, Russell Books, Ivy’s Bookshop, Tanner’s in Sidney, as well at the synagogue office at 1461 Blanshard Street and at the door.
ADMISSION IS $25.00. Festival Seating. DOORS WILL OPEN AT 6:45 p.m.
