Lincoln Z. Shlensky, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Victoria, where he conducts research and teaches in the fields of postcolonial literature, Jewish and diaspora studies, and media studies.
Lincoln has served on the Congregation Emanu-El board 2013-14 and 2020-24, serving in a variety of roles, including website designer and manager (2013-17); Acting Chair and Treasurer, Finance Committee (2020); Chair, Communications Committee (2021-); Co-Chair, Fundraising Committee (2024); Co-Chair, Rabbinic Search Committee (2024-); and First Vice-President (2022-present).
Among a variety of community service activities, Lincoln was the program director and later the director of the Victoria International Jewish Film Festival (2015-19); he was the Middle East section programmer for the Victoria Film Festival (2018-22). He is a long-time juror for the Vancouver Jewish Film Festival. He has served as a volunteer for several organisations over the years, including Berkeley Hillel, the Jewish Community Relations Council, and the James Bay Child Care Society.
In his academic work, Lincoln has published in AJS Perspectives (Association for Jewish Studies); Literature for Our Times; The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict in the Francophone World; Slavery and the Cultures of Abolition; Shofar; and Prooftexts: A Journal of Jewish Literary History; among others.
